About the Author

As a boy with a very active mind, NBA legend Jerry Lucas challenged himself by inventing mental games to test his memory.  At an early age, Jerry realized that to be a successful student in school took knowing not only HOW to learn but also HOW TO RETAIN that learned information.  He became determined to develop ways to make the learning process easy, fun and long-lasting.

Jerry has devoted his life to cultivating ideas and techniques for fun and easy memory-retention. The resulting methods are known as the Lucas Learning System™ and have earned him the title of Doctor Memory™.

Jerry graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Ohio State University with a near perfect grade point average (GPA).  His only B was in a pottery class.

“My hands were just too large to get the job done,” said Lucas.

Not only a scholastic achiever, he excelled as an athlete as well.  Jerry became the only basketball player in collegiate history to lead the nation in field goal percentage and rebounding for three years, thus becoming the only three-time recipient of the Big Ten player of the year award.

This achievement still has not been duplicated or surpassed.  Chosen seven times as an All-Pro during his basketball career (1963—1974), Jerry was named one of the 50 most outstanding NBA players of all time.  Although Jerry helped the New York Knicks win an NBA Championship in 1973, being inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 1979 was perhaps his crowning achievement as an athlete. Recently, Jerry was chosen as one of the five most outstanding college basketball players of the twentieth century by Sports Illustrated in its article entitled “Team of the Ages,” which appeared in the November 1999, College Basketball Preview issue.

Although Lucas initially achieved fame and success by his impressive basketball accomplishments, he continues to score off the court as well.  Jerry has taught his memory retention system to hundreds of thousands of people primarily through seminars. Not only did he co-author The New York Times best-seller The Memory Book, he also has entertained countless television viewers with guest appearances on TV talk shows during which he dazzled the audience by demonstrating his ability to meet and remember all of their names.

“When I think of Jerry Lucas, I recall my own experiences with Jerry and his incredible memory and learning capabilities.  His proven techniques have already helped millions of people.”

What Others Have Said About The Lucas Learning System™

A student using Picture Perfect Spanish can create thousands of original Spanish sentences—far more than is expected of a typical first-year high school Spanish student.  Language students usually cram vocabulary words for tests but then quickly forget them.  Doctor Memory’s highly imaginative pictures BURN the vocabulary into their minds.”

“A never-fail system!”

Time Life Magazine review of The Memory Book

“...My ten-year-old son has had a short-term memory learning disability. Prior to your seminar he had no visual way of learning. I had tried to teach him grammar and punctuation rules for two years with little or no success as far as retention is concerned. Within three days with your methods he learned and retained more than he had in two years.”

“… The repetitive attempts at learning, which thoroughly frustrated and bored me and my boys turned into fun, laughter and success.  They have learned far more and much, much faster with your systems than with the other home school programs I was using.  Thank you for changing our lives.”
