In The Times Tables, Doctor Memory makes all of the times
table problems from 2 x 2 to 12 x 12 tangible so the numbers in the problem and answer can be seen as easily as a horse, cow or dog. Each
problem has a unique activity that distinguishes it from every other problem to eliminate
confusion. In the picture you see two elves representing
the number twelve. The words two elves sound very
much like the number twelve, and they can be
seen tangibly. The letters "tw" in two, and the letters "elve" in elves actually spell out the number twelve.
You will see these two elves and the rest of Doctor
Memory's number pictures in fun activities that bring difficult and boring multiplication
problems to life. The answer to each problem can be seen tangibly, since it is an
integral part of the learning picture, Doctor Memory makes the times tables fun for all.
Take a look at the example to your right.
A tree is used to picture the number three.
Tree sounds like the number three
and is easily pictured. A mine is used to
picture the number nine. In this
illustration, you have the visual image for the problem 3 x 3 = 9. Once you have a mental
picture of a number, remembering basic multiplication problems is easy. The best part is
that the pictures are designed to give you the problem and the answer at the same time.
Study the picture, and you will remember the problem and its answer without using rote
memorization. It's that simple. Later when you think of 3 x 3, you simply picture in your
mind what the two trees are doing. You will see a mental image of the trees pushing a
mining car into mine #9, and you will know the answer to the problem automatically.
